Ring Ring Ring

I wish I could have a couple days when my phone didn't ring.
Both of them call me daily. Yes I hear you readers who have
lost your parents say I should be thankful...
But it is a burden to me.
Having them so intimately in my life makes it impossible for me to move ahead. My father constantly talks about the past, which makes me think about the past- something that I had finally dealt with and healed...and then I get dragged back there over & over. My mother on the other hand wants to be told about the past, that she has totally forgotten.
Neither of them have any idea about the pain, no idea that their children are messed up because of them. I am not sure what 'past' they speak of... Certainly not the one I know.

I'm done with all that pain-
I want my own life -
I want to be with my love.

Go Fish

I have been sick for a couple weeks I think.
Not wanting my parents to get ill I have been avoiding too much contact. I still have a cough but do not feel I am contagious anymore so I visited mom for an extended time yesterday (1 hour) until I was exhausted & had to return home.
During this time I played the card game 'Go Fish' with mom.
Unfortunately without short term memory she kept asking
for the same card over & over even though she had a handful of cards.

"Do you have any Jacks?"
I patiently gave her many turns and re-instruction
and it was fun, but I had to go home to bed after.

Dressing for Weather

I called my mother Sunday morning to see if my sister was bringing her to church. I had texted her to tell me if she was because I would need to go over there & make sure she washed her hair & dressed for single digit cold. No text reply, and mom said she got no call.
That night at 10pm mom called and got me out of bed to go over and remove a necklace, she was in her sunday clothes which I found peculiar but not unheard of.
Last night my sister said she had taken mom to church and she had dirty hair & wore a raincoat.
I told Miss Clueless again that she HAS to tell me so I can assist!
I have told her this numerous times, hopefully now it will stick.

Punched

I got a call at eleven AM on Sunday from Seacrest.
(staff person)was on the phone saying that they see that dad has a black eye.
She then tells me that Saturday afternoon (after dinner?) my father was waiting for the elevator with a bunch of other residents when all of a sudden there was an outbreak of noise. She ran over to the elevator to find my dad picking up his glasses. The other residents said that the (described) man had hit my father. Dad said he was ok.
I called my dad and asked him what happened and he said the guy punched him in the eye and knocked his glasses off knocking the lens out & bending the frame. He also said he couldn't remember much else & was fuzzy so I decided to bring him to the emergency room & get checked out.
His more detailed description came out then.
"I was waiting for the elevator and this (described person) guy was making noises, so I "whoah" 'd at him (huffed)
and he punched me in the eye".
Today--
I just finished talking to his social worker-
The staff told her nothing about being there for the incident-- only that they discovered him with a black eye Saturday. The social worker started to tell me you can get a black eye by falling & giving it to yourself (!!!)
She seemed quite confused when I told her that they had told me about him being hit in front of the elevators.
I do not know what to do because there aren't any other places with private rooms that the VA will pay for so I am hesitant to do anything, and so is my dad.

Let Them Eat Chocolate

A touching article a friend sent me...
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/01/health/01care.html?_r=1

It made me sad
to realize that most of us will end up without people
around who know who we are
and what we need to comfort ourself.
Our possessions, our pets, our friends, will be gone...
Hopefully there will be people who bother to try to
get to know us.
