Brought my mother to color easter eggs.
I really wasn't feeling up to it emotionally but it was something for her to do.
We were there for three hours.
Walked back to her room after getting the mail and she did not know what the
eggs were.
Called me at 5:30 and thought she had done nothing all day and wanted to walk.

Bright Sunshine
Finally I was able to bring mother outside and sit in the sunshine.
It is very important for mental and physical health to expose
your eyes and skin to bright light.
We sat out there for almost two hours doing ankle and leg movements.
Unfortunately that night she called me experiencing sundowning.
She was upset thinking she had just sat around doing nothing all day.
I was able to relieve her by telling her we had been outside
in the sun all afternoon and that now the day was done.
She happily accepts my word as I tell her what we do
saying "Oh good, I'm glad we got out."
she cannot remember anything...
Frightening to think a person could lie to her and she would believe it.
Poor thing, it is such a strange disease.

Hair
Why in the world wont mother wash her hair ?
She even thought she would trick me yesterday by wetting it.
Duh, it still smells like bedhead and is greasy.
No amount of explaining that hair gets dirty just like your face or body has worked.
I think from her "eek" reaction it has more to do with the shower than her hair.
She has become very sensitive to warm and cold foods, leaving everything on the counter to get room temperature.
My deduction is that she doesnt like the feel of the water hitting her-
I agree it is quite stimulating-maybe too much. Or perhaps that she has to put her
head under or backwards to wash hair.
Just another conundrum I see others going through also.
I'm cooking her up some chicken legs in my oven to bring over.
Legs are a shape easily identified as 'chicken' when frozen.
I have a rotten cold that is numbing my brain.

Aggressive Father
I have not visited my father since he went into nursing home.
I do not want to or feel I can either.
Spoke to him a few times, last time he said he had heard someone say
in the hallway that I was dead.
The hospital and NH are requesting family call him and tell him to take his antibiotics. He is aggressively resisting.
All this with him is a weight upon my shoulders that is affecting how I care for my mother and myself. It makes me not have the patience needed to deal with her...
mostly because I am angry at father for not changing.
All my life I was the "go between" as a kid with him and my mother
and recently this type stuff.
I was always compliant and obedient,
but for some reason as an adult he listened to me.
It's a nasty biting dog that will only listen to one person... what happens to that dog
when the 'person' is gone-?
Well, a patient ends up being kicked out of the nursing home and put in a bad place.
Bad for the patient.
More burden for the family.

S.S. Update
So, S.S. does not acknowledge POA and a lot of other caregivers are finding this out.
http://www.alzconnected.org/discussion.aspx?bid=151&g=posts&t=2147495826
As for me, I am happy and hopeful this works out.
It will also clear up the other check I wrote about below and have it direct deposited.
They found fault with the amount on their own and corrected it to be higher.
I am waiting for SS to receive the form from the Dr's and then they will send me a letter of acceptance to me. In the meantime her pay is being held.
I have made plenty sure she has savings to cover this time.
Once accepted, I will have to provide evidence of how the money in the payee account
has been spent=no problem, as my main goal has been to protect this money for her.
