Daily Grind
I haven't seen my father in over a month, and his nightly phone calls have stopped.
I wonder if I am doing the right thing, I mean, I don't necessarily feel guilty,
but I am concerned about his welfare.
Quite sure that he has not had a haircut,
had his ears or hearing aids cleaned, nails cut.
Also, I am pretty positive that my sister hasn't even brought
over his things for his new room!
Changing his address on all kinds of accounts for him is a big pain,
but I'm getting it done.
Meanwhile today I am taking my mother to the dentist.
She lost a big filling earlier this month from a molar, and a piece of front tooth fell off.
I have been successful so far in answering her protests of
"Last time he didn't do anything! " with my answer
"Ya, he was terrrible so we are going to the new one, he's nice"
The one thing that I worry about is her not understanding why
her mouth is sore afterwards.
Next I have to call the phone company with her present
and find out why her bill went from 26 to 40.00

Mother
Every day I wonder why I bother.
I mean, if the person doesn't remember what they just did
as soon as they go out the door from it -
Why bother ?

It is the ultimate case of amnesia.
She calls me to say good night and I tell her what we did.
"We did?!" she says
"Well, that's good, at least I did something"
geez, we could have done nothing
and I could be lying for all she knows...
What a strange bizarre disease.
I mean, if the person doesn't remember what they just did

He had gotten his bank statement and wanted the checkbook.
He said something about it being in his old room.
I was surprised he didn't have it and told him my sister had it.
I was Shocked that he hasn't been told that he is staying where he is
and that his old room doesn't exist !
My sister really is NO help.
I was quite alarmed when she acted as though she had hardly
even been in his old room when my boyfriend and I were emptying it out.
She really had just grabbed his money and ran.
To bring down the level of mass confusion in the future
I am attempting to change the addresses of all his crap...
but am having a hard time remembering how the hell I did it the last time.

Book for Alz To Read
Having Alzheimers makes reading a book practically impossible.
I got her a childrens book with large type and it still was too much.
This book though was different--

The pages only have a couple sentences. The font is large. The photos are full page and have lots of items to look at. The subject matter is simple and easy to follow.
My mother was able to read it and comprehend the story!!

Some Cute Things Alz
My mother will open her door and sing out in the hallway as I walk down to see her.
It makes me wonder what the neighbors think, but it is so cute and funny.
When I leave her place, after the hugs and "see ya later alligator"
she sings as I walk back to my door and I turn and we wave...
I know it gives her great peace to know inwardly that I am close-by.
Even if she forgets. It does me also.
She is amazingly fast at doing 100 piece puzzles now, can do them in a day!
Of course I know she is up half the night, but who cares.
She arranges the pieces in piles according to color and edges and all this
takes care of alot of obsessive components of the disease.
Unfortunately, it also has her forget to eat, or go to bed late- but she is busy!
I always make sure she is eating well.
Last night I had her over for dinner- it is fun to set her up with a tv table.
Thank goodness she can just walk home :)

Remove Father's Things
The assisted living place where father was living suddenly called
and said I had to remove his belongings immediately.
Apparently the VA will only hold a bed for a certain number of days while person is in rehab.
You have the option of paying a "bed hold" fee per day.
My boyfriend came and we emptied out the room.
Gave my sister father's checkbook, credit card, clothes and things for new room at
nursing home.
The next day one of the staff called and was extremely rude and accusatory
telling me to return the cable box that was THEIRS.
I was barely awake and told her I had paid for it, and she was nasty.
Finally she recalled delivering a cable bill to his room.
"Sorry, bye" was it.
No, I am not going to complain- they are ALL two-faced over there
and I am more than happy to rid myself of them and that joint.
Only one good thing has come about since my breakdown
Father doesn't call as much and doesn't talk about what I can do for him anymore.
I have not seen him yet, but will at the meeting with sister
Monday at the nursing home.

Father In Rehab and I Broke
It's pretty bad when you read your blog entry to find out what happened.
I had a mental collapse and don't remember.
Sister had to be called in to take over.
Father better go into nursing home.
I cannot handle him on phone and cannot
fathom seeing him again.
