Sympathy

I am thankful that my mother is still aware enough to be sympathetic when I am not feeling well.
Yes, she forgets right after I tell her.
Yes, she comes up with silly solutions like it's something I ate.
Forgetting I have arthritis and I hurt, or my eye hurts a lot.
(which can become irritating after a while)
But at least she isn't like my father who just wants to make sure I am going to get over there.
I am un-movable when it comes to changing the day of the week no matter how much he tries.
I have to rest !

Physical Memory

Women born in the twenties and prior were taught to cross-stitch as a rule.
I had no idea that the memory of this would still be in my mother's fingers!
She kept on saying how all the women in her family sewed for 100's of years.>
I plan on finding more of the plastic screening and thread to do this again.
She LOVED doing this.

Phone call made

Finally called the place where I want mother to go in the future.

She said to fill the forms out as best as I can to get her on the list.

She said to keep the Senior Assessment Dr.

She said that monetary gifts once in a great while should be fine as far as when title 19 looks back at finances.

She also said to get an elder-care lawyer ASAP.

Glad I got all those questions in, and like she said- do these things now, before you are suddenly in an emergency situation.

ALZ Changing Communication

I have found myself adapting to the slow but progressive changes in my mother's communicating. Lost words have to be met with an attitude of patience and helpful suggestions or offering for her to at least tell me the subject of what she is trying to get at. Touching myself or her when asking about hearing aids, glasses, keys, wallet to help enforce the oral question. A lot of times she confuses the heck out of me with her mixing together places she has lived- asking me to unravel the memories for her. It is at these times and her times of acute agitation I have to keep my own brain from drowning in the twirling waters of alzheimer disease. Good article about this= http://www.alz.org/care/dementia-communication-tips.asp

Dad's Humor

" Heaven High" he says on the phone to me...
instead of
"Hello"

He laughs and says it's a sickness and he can't help it
LoL
