Reading And Speaking

My mother is having a hard time reading.
She is pronouncing written words incorrectly.
During conversation she will utter some gibberish-
thank goodness she is still able to hear herself and we can have a good laugh...
for now....

We Did That Already!

Took my mother out after lunch for a 45 minute walk and then sat in the shade for a while. I knew she was very tired & would nap. Well, at 4:00 she called wanting to go for a walk! She had completely forgotten she had been out already and wanted to get out for a walk today-

Father's Dementia

Well, my father's brain seems to be shrinking, or something.
He chooses to be completely out of touch with the world- will not watch the news or change the channel off of animal planet with no sound. He will however read science magazines and enjoy talking about their contents still, but I think that his eyesight may be going. I cannot imagine not being able to eat, see, or hear very well.
He stays holed up in his new small room, rarely venturing outside and when he does he's always surprised at how nice the fresh ocean air is.
I try to encourage him to go outside and sit but he comes up with an excuse and I don't press.
He has gotten a lot more feeble in the past few months-mostly because of just sleeping the days away I guess.

Alz and losing balance

I think my mother might be entering a new 'stage'.
I have read that loss of balance becomes an issue.
She toppled over twice in two days.
Once with my sister and she skinned her knees in the grass.
And today she was trying to line dance, something she loves to do but couldn't do it today. She ended up tripping over her own feet and slowly going down. Most people would have caught themselves easily but I guess when your brain isn't firing it doesn't move your foot over to stop the fall.

Chemical Build-up

The chemicals and hormones in my brain from the stress of these people has built up too much again. By these people I mean my parents.
I feel quite thin and fragile.
My father has no idea how cruel and angry he was raising us
and that all of his children are broken
because of he and his abusive wife.

Pill Switching

My mother has an AM/ PM pill box for her "memory pills"
Upon my knock at the door she will open the appropriate slot
and move the pill to another open one.
Extremely annoying because she will say she took it.
But when she isn't looking, if I put the pill back into the slot & close it,
wait a while and give it, she takes it no question asked.
Sometimes she succeeds in confusing me,
but today she didn't.
